A successful career may hide the darkest of stories. Lolo Jones, who was the winner of the USA and the World Championships for hurdle events in 2013, only achieved this feat by putting in a lot of work and perseverance. Jones was the only child of a five-child family as well as grew up in a very poor environment. Her mother lived along the road and even inside the basement of the local church at one point. This nomadic life made it necessary for Jones to attend an entirely new school each year until the time she entered in high school. Jones loved to participate in athletics in Theodore Roosevelt the high school stayed far from her mother to follow her passion. She was a member of four families throughout her time at high school, in order to learn all in the same place. Jones also played cello in the orchestra of her school. In high school, she won the Gatorade Athlete of the Year Award from the Iowa Track & Field. Jones started her professional career at the college level as one of the most talented hurdlers. At the 2002 NCAA Track and Field Championships, she won the 100-meter hurdles. Additionally, she was an athlete that was second in the 100 meter relay. Jones was a winner of the indoor hurdles at the NCAA championships in 2003 as well as 2004. Jones started her track career in 2005 when she graduated from university. She won two events, in the Torino Memorial and the Heusden Track races that same year.
